view a clip of evil dead: the musical

"Deadites" Join Musical Fans In Audience For Broadways' "Evil Dead"
from NY1 News
December 27, 2006

The Canadian import "Evil Dead: The Musical" based on the 1980's horror cult classic is demonizing a whole new fan base off-Broadway. Our Clover Lalehzar has the story.

Twenty-five years later, Sam Raimi's horror film "Evil Dead" remains a cult classic. The scenario is rather familiar, involving five college students who venture into the woods to spend a weekend in an isolated cabin. Instead, they unwittingly set off a horrifying chain of events that starts with uncovering a Book of the Dead. The original film and its sequels have a devoted fan base called "Deadites."

Well, it's about goddamn time. One of the most underrated and underappreciated films of our era.

Caught a production of Plan Nine From Outer Space: The Musical in Hollywood about 10 years ago. Funniest show I've ever seen. It helps if you've seen the movie, but you don't need to.

If anyone ever does this near you go see it.

I'm waiting for Reanimator: The Musical. That would be awesome.

The play card scene from that movie still freaks me out. And of course, there's nothing worse than being sexual molested by plant life.

OMG you're kidding!! I adore Evil Dead! And Evil Dead 2, and Army of Darkness... heck, I even have Fistful of Boomstick for my PS2!

Aaaah, AoD. Have watched it at least two dozen times. It has my favorite laugh ever in a film (Erik the Red). Of course, the sequels are not much like the original, but how can you not love Bruce Campbell?

One of the things I find most fascinating about him is his insistence that people NOT write fan fiction about Ash. He hates to see talent go to waste on more Ash stuff when they could be writing something original and just as brilliant.

I think he hates Ash too. Poor Bruce. :-)

bill, i'm keeping my fingers crossed that it makes it here!

s.w.: i really enjoyed bruce campbell's book IF CHINS COULD KILL where he goes into detail about the making of evil dead and the contraptions he and sam raimi had to rig up because they didn't have any money. pretty funny. and i have to admit that one of the last movies i saw in a theater was the screening of the man with the screaming brain. hilarious. bruce was there and talked about the making of it. there was some drunk college kid (is it the same guy at all these events???) in the back row who shouted out some insulting thing that bruce easily deflected and turned around.

I would pay money to see this! Maybe it will start a trend to attract B movie lovers. I'd love to see "Halloween The Musical".

If it doesn't make it's way to the hinterlands, maybe it will still be around New York during ThrillerFest next year!

heather, wouldn't that be great???!!! haha!

bill, ooh, it might be!!! i know it's hard to believe that evil dead: the musical wouldn't be enough to get me to go to thrillerfest, but at least you can go to it and report back!

Yikes and yikes! Yikes 1: I didn't know I was a we, and we are called "Deadites." Not to my face, goddamit. Yikes 2: That someone would make a musical of Evil Dead. This is truly portentous news. I expect the Apocalypse now. Note to self: make musical of Apocalypse Now.

i really wouldn't be surprised if there wasn't a musical of AN. if not, you should really get on that. i think it would be a big hit.
