publicity photos

there's been some talk about publicity photos, and now it's time for me to send in a permission form if i want to change my current photo. the photo has to be black and white, and now i'm wondering if the second one is too sinister. what do you think? the friendly pose with missing upper lip, or the sinister pose with partially missing face?

Wow, talk about to different views.

I like the second, after all, you do write mysteries.

Anne, I like both photos but for different reasons. You have a very nice smile. I didn't even notice your slightly protracted upper lip until you mentioned it. lol
The second photo is nice, not because it is sinister, but because it adds a hint of subtle mystery to your personna, although I'm not sure having half of your face obscured in shadow is what you're looking for in a publicity shot.
I guess I'm voting for the smile. :)

Anne,

I think I like the smile. Yours is so warm and welcoming. It's a great picture.

Of course I meant "retracted, not protracted upper lip." sowwwy. :)

I know you're happier with door number 2, so go for it!! ;D

okay, i'm really confused. seems it's about half and half.

jeff -- damn. i just canceled my botox.

number 2 would be my choice if it were color, but i'm not sure about the black and white.

I like them both. The first one is more inviting, the second brooding and mysterious wihich befits your genre.

You may throw something at me but the first one makes you look younger...and more....

more what?
wet behind the ears?
and i WAS younger in that photo! :D

More....sexy, ooooooooaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!

I'm a sucker for big hair, I guess

I've been a fan of the number 2 photo, but, like you said, it'll be too dark in b/w. Do you have any other similar ones that might do well in b/w?

Any chance you could get someone with a digital camera and do some quick shoots?

I think the second photo is more fitting for what you write.

Okay, so which one did you pick? Inquiring minds wanna know. :-)

r.j.: the big hair is what i really dislike about the photo. :D
emeraldcite: i'm afraid that would turn into the same indecisive situation.

tanya: argggghhhh! :D i'm more confused that ever. at this second i'm leaning toward just leaving them with the first photo since i can't decide and it's already in the hands of everybody who is supposed to have it.

DH got me some photo doctoring software for Christmas and I'm like a kid with a new toy. You said the second photo was too dark? Okay, how's THIS?

that is really cool! i love the sepia tone.
but since my books are paperback, the photo has to be black and white. :(

maybe i should use the second photo for the upcoming book. i can always switch back to the old photo.

Shesawriter said...

Drat. Okay, here's another version. This is black and white, only I added a dash of light to bring you out more. My advice? Go with your gut. :-)

that definitely helps. i would think they could make that kind of adjustment to the image when it's printed, but i'm not sure.

i'll probably mail in the form, then give myself a few more days to think about it.
there's a band here in town with a lead singer who blacks out half of his face. i keep thinking about that guy. :D

I like both photos, but the second better fits the image of a suspense writer, I think.

well, the second photo is in the mail along with the permission form. i ended up having to put the photo on a cd because the file was too big.

i think i'll stick with the second one just to shake things up a little.

thanks for all the input!!

I love the second one, it is kind of what I'm going to do for the new cover of my new book.

hi benjamin -- and welcome to my blog.

thanks for the input! i think i'm going to go with the second one.

it does fit what i write, and change is good!

i was thinking that the first one was maybe too traditional and "girly". hot? that cracks me up. i feel about 80, and eighty-year-olds aren't hot.

i like it when the camera lies. :D

Well, it's too late for me to vote, but I think you know which picture I liked best.

It's like a choice between Doris Day and Elvira. That whole mistress of the dark thing just works for me.

I've been out of town with a cranky computer so I haven't been here for a while. I know you've already decided. Good thing you went with my decision. :) Jer

I'm coming in late, here, but I say the second one. Not sinister, but mysterious. More in line with the books.

I'm coming into this late, too... but I vote for sinister, too. People will wonder: what's the deal with the right side of Anne's face? Rumors will circulate. Theories will develop. Legends will be born.
