this is nuts

today's high was -7.

i'm guessing the wind was blowing at least twenty miles an hour. maybe more. low tonight is supposed to be -15, with wind chills of at least -40.

i bundled up to take out the trash and almost died. it's brutal. and breaking some records. the furnace never shuts off, and the house is creaking and popping.

i am so glad i have julia buckley's ARC to read. delightful, and funny as hell.

frequent flyer miles....

i love frequent flyer miles. yes, they're impossible to use over holidays, but most of my plane tickets have been purchased with frequent flyer miles. that means i've flown to oregon for free. to boise for free. to georgia for free more than once. florida for free twice. 3 free trips to iowa. well, not FREE. there's a ten dollar charge. 60 bucks if you don't purchase the ticket 3 weeks in advance. i just got a new credit card that is free for one year. it gave me 20,000 miles right off. that's almost one round trip already.

i've never been a coupon clipper, but i love frequent flyer miles.

Thank god you're getting out of the deep freeze soon! Minnesota...man, that's just brutal. At least you've got a good book & Florida coming up soon.

I have never managed to do the frequent flyer thing. Well, no, I've had other people purchase tickets for me on their airmiles. But I can't ever get enough points.

Note to self: Spend more money I don't have.

You are the nicest. Thank you!

And it's freakin cold here, too--we're hunkering down and making spaghetti to eat while we watch the superbowl. We sleep in what used to be the attic, and last night, even with our little heater, it was 55 degrees up there. We used about eighteen blankets. :0

so angie, are you saying the winter house swap is off?

bekbek, the beauty of it is you don't have to spend anything to get the miles. well, you usually have to put 250.00 on the card before the miles are entered into your account. and i once spent 80 bucks to upgrade for another 25,000 miles. or maybe that was 50,000 miles. but if you can get the miles from somebody else -- yeah, that's the way to fly. :D

mary louisa, thanks so much!

julia, i wondered what it was like in your area.

i got a great christmas gift this year -- a heated mattress pad. i have to fight the cat for it though. he goes in there during the day and if it's not turned on he starts meowing in this really pathetic, sad voice. i think he's dying, but he just wants the heat turned on.

Nope, no way I wanna change places with you! MN is just too damn cold in the winter. I like snow, but damn...

The temps are dropping here too. I'm not looking forward to the morning. Gee, I hope my car starts.

-18 here. Yuck.

Yes, love those Frequent Flyer miles, especially when they take me south for the wiinter. Move south, Anne. Hurry! I want to be able to come visit you!

It's 54 here in Portland right now. Partly cloudy. I just went out to lunch with a friend and it was so nice out. Are you going to punch me now?

I bet Julia's book is great!

You're probably going to come back to MN and tell me how nice was in Florida, aren't you? Don't you dare. This stuff hurts.

Today it was -20 when I woke up. The dogs have been going nutz being cooped up all weekend, so I finally put on my snowpants, ski jacket, boots and heavy gloves to brave the cold and take them for a walk. I was fine, but my babies' paws started freezing after only 10 minutes. Yikes!

I feel cold just reading this, Anne.

(It's 41 here in San Antonio, and my cat is also curled up on the electric mattress pad...in the spare bedroom! Hedonistic beast)

Stay warm, all you chilly folks :)

Ah yes... there is empathy and understanding of the bitter cold temps here in east central WI. This morning it was -10 out.

I'm just about heartbroken, because this morning it's still not 40.

It's 68 here today.

Mwuahaha...

Hulles said...

Heather, nice gloating. I'll get you for that. And your little dog, too.

We didn't quite make the 60s yesterday. Sigh...

It's an extremely pleasant 74 degrees in San Antonio today. I thought of you all while I basked in sun. :D

OMG I thought it was cold here! Keep warm. I feel sorry for the homeless in your neck of the woods. Well anywhere but there now must be awful. Cheery old me.
