the bridge

Just wanted to let everybody know that my family is safe. both of my kids work within walking distance and use the 35W bridge on a daily basis. M crossed it three times yesterday before the collapse. a friend was getting ready to cross and witnessed the collapse and began calling people from her cell phone. i think i got a call from my daughter about 6:15. it was very strange to hear about something of that magnitude without yet being able to get info from the internet or local news. of course now the coverage is intense, so i've been glued to the local stations.

Glad to hear you're all okay. Yes, it's strange - I first heard about the collapse not from the news or radio, but from an email.

I can't believe there are still fifty cars in the water )according to NPR). What those people must be going through. Of course, with the war in Iraq going so well, why complain about how we allocate money in this country.

I was thinking about you and your family and was about to write an email.

See, I had no idea how close a call it was. I know you don't dig driving, so I figured unless you got killed during a suicide attempt, you'd be okay. The fact that your daughter was over that bridge three times yesterday is seriously spooky.

So glad everything is fine.

Like everyone else, I thought of you too. I'm relieved your family and friends are safe. What a tragedy this is for your community. Every time I've crossed a bridge today, I've held my breath.

thanks so much to all of you for your concern and for checking in.

XOXO!

i just can't quit watching TV. The local coverage has a lot more personal stories and interviews. I can't believe so many people walked away.

Not what one would call a "remote" disaster - very up-front and real.
Relieved you and yours are safe, Anne.
