i'm in the process of packing and i will be moving in two weeks. yay!! i can't wait!! there were so many obstacles to buying the church, but one by one they were resolved and everything is in order and set to close.
the mouse situation here is still unbelievable. i've never experienced anything like it, and i've lived in some dumps. even though it's cold, i have windows open and window fans going around the clock, and still the smell of dead mice is overpowering and makes me dizzy. i was told to put out poison, and i go through one small box a day. i've thought of reporting it to the health department, but i hate to do that because i think the condo owner will get in trouble when it is really the fault of the association. they do absolutely nothing about anything. nothing. after six months, my phone number still hasn't been entered in the box at the front door. but every time I run into the guy who's supposed to do it, he says he'll do it in a few days. haha! it's really a shame, because this is such a cool, beautiful building, but a condo is only as good as the association.
i'm a really negative person, and i know i always look for the negative in every situation, but this mouse thing -- it's bad.
oh, and just having a cat in the house will not keep them away. my poor old cat is scared of them. :D he went to his scratching post and a mouse eeked and jumped out at him. the cat scrambled and has been paranoid and nervous ever since.
but all things considered, i'm glad i tried living here because for years i've wondered if it wouldn't be easier to live in a condo or apartment where somebody else takes care of things. foolish me.

Yay for resolved problems. :)
Boo for bad management. :(
And Lol about your cat. :p
That is too funny.
All my friends who live in condos have to hold office on the condo boards in order to get anything done. It's practically a second job.
heather, it's hard to believe my cat used to live on a farm. he's such a sissy. :D
patti, that's probably why the condo craze is dead here. it was hip for a long time, then people realized what a pain in the ass it is. i just went for a walk and passed at least 20 condos that have been on the market ever since i moved to this area of town. i could definitely see living in one if you traveled a lot and weren't home much, but otherwise they don't seem to make a lot of sense to me.
So cool you get to move so soon. Will the church need a lot of work?
It's official. Anne is the new Church Lady. With better legs.
jaye, it's been completely renovated from top to bottom, but it has been empty for several years. it actually doesn't need anything done, although there are a lot of things i'll want to do eventually. it's more form than function right now.
sandra -- LOL! not sure about the legs though. :D
Just be sure that no mice get into your boxes... eek! While technically an old church probably should have a few cute mice (that you wind up naming and feeding small crackers to), I think they have to be country mice, not those nasty city mice who're used to living high on the hog in a condo. ~sneer~ Who needs THAT kind of mouse? No thanks!
If you were staying, I'd suggest a live trap.
Maybe having a hostage would give you some leverage.
bekbek -- i' so afraid of bringing the city mice with me! and then they'll teach the country mice all their nasty tricks.
jason, yeah live traps would be much better. i don't like the smell of death, and i also don't like killing the mice. for two months the president of the association has been saying someone is coming to put in live traps, but everything she's ever said is a lie. i don't understand people like that, and don't want anything to do with them. if she'd just said they had no plans to do anything, the condo owner and i would have done something ourselves. i've never dealt with such a bunch of inept idiots. these are adults. just tell the truth and be straightforward. what's so hard about that?
i really feel sorry for people who bought condos thinking their lives would be easier, because they just end up being at the mercy of a bunch of idiots. that happens enough in life without people actually CHOOSING to give up all control.
Hooray for country mice! Good luck on the move - no matter the challenges of the new place, at least you'll have a nice place sans loud ass neighbors. ;)
Try renting a barn owl for the next couple of weeks. They like mice.
Or if that doesn't work, you might be able to pick up a flame thrower on e-Bay pretty cheap.
angie, yep!! it will be interesting to see how it feels to be back in the country after almost 8 years. i don't think i ever adapted very well to city living.
jeff, lol! a barn owl might be just the thing. :D
won't a church have church mice?! ;} that's funny about the cat...mine both would have been in heaven chasing your mousies!
yeah, i couldn't believe my sissy cat! haha! maybe you could make a cute vest for the church mice. ;)
