waiting

the wait never gets any easier.

turned in my manuscript a month early.

at first i don't even want to hear anything. i just want to enjoy being done.
but after a few weeks, i begin to worry. by week five, i've mentally put my house on the market and am moving in with one of my kids. i'm calculating how long i can be unemployed.

even if you're under contract, they can always turn down a book. i've seen it happen. not to me, but to others. and it usually begins with silence.

then i get the call.

the book is a fairly big departure, which is why i was so worried. they were trying to decide how to market it. dark suspense verging on horror.

breathe and smile

thanks again, allen!!
i must warn you that quite a few people didn't like Before I Wake. but then a few people have said it's their favorite of the four.

thanks, jeff! i can't believe it won't be out for almost a year due to an earlier contract delay. but i had to rush the last three books. won't have to do that with this one. that will be nice.

allen,
this is kind of a weird situation because i'm hoping to write a sequel and i've already sent in the proposal for the second book. i don't normally write sequels or even continuing characters, but this book seemed to have more story than one book could hold. it will be really nice to have everything already established -- if they take it. BUT i will probably do a pretty heavy revision on the first book. I imagine that will take a month, maybe even two. i think it will mainly be fleshing out certain aspects of the story. to get back to your question, i usually have a new story formulating in my mind before the first is done.

Anne, you're scaring the crap out of me as I sweat over book two (which isn't due for a year)...

Anne, congratulations! Dark suspense verging on horror--my favorite. Now I have to wait a year? *flops head down on desk*

Well if you need an honest opinion, send me a manuscript :-)
I've been doing a book tracker list of the books I've read this year...458. I would consider me a book expert ;)
