Happy Holidays!

GLOGG
1/2 cup vodka
1 - 3 cinnamon sticks
10 cloves
1 teaspoon cardamom

At least twenty-four hours before serving, put above ingredients in container with lid. Shake well, then shake occasionally throughout day.

2 liters of wine. Sangria works well, but any sweet, fruity wine will do.
1/2 cup sugar (more or less, to taste)
Vodka mixture, with cloves and cinnamon sticks strained out.

Put everything in a large pan. Heat well, but don't boil.

Serve with raisins and sliced almonds. These should be put in individual cups before adding about 1/2 cup hot liquid.

Merry Christmas Eve!

Now THIS is why the baby Jesus was born. If you don't drink a lot of it, you'll make the Baby Jesus cry.

And you wouldn't want to make the Baby Jesus cry, would you?

Dear Stephen, thanks for making me choke on my ginger gummy bear. Now I'm going to buy one of those for my mother-out-law so she can be close to Jesus all the time.

Anne, I can feel the hangover coming on down the road already(but will that stop me? I think not.) :D

What?

It's all supposed to be about the Baby Jesus, isn't it?

Besides, there's got to be at least one person you want to give it to.

I wish there was only *one* person I wanted to give it to. Alas the list is long. :D

stephen and alex: i ordered a baker's dozen. :D 13 is my lucky number.

jeff, yep, had to bring the glogg back. unfortunately it didn't make an appearance in my house this year, but there's still time.

emeraldcite, same to you and your family!

jason, merry christmas!

s.w. yummy is right. although last year someone finally admitted he didn't like the raisins and nuts. then everybody else chimed in and agreed. :D guess i'll just leave them out next time.

sounds excellent. Very fond of sangria, so the rest should only be an improvement, though I might be leaving out the nuts and raisins, too.

Also, dunno about this Kangaroo Christmas business, but I'd like to be on the cutting edge of more than that!

i just broke down and mixed up the vodka ingredients.
i realized i missed having the leftover glogg to pop in the microwave.

As it happens, this is going to be a New Year's tipple, since we haven't got the necessary stuff and I haven't gotten the gumption to get my butt out the door to make the necessary purchases. That's good, because there's still time for me to heed your advice regarding sip size. (Wish me luck on that!)

bill, it seems that the cardamom comes two different ways -- one is as expensive a bag of high-grade weed. not sure what that's all about, and i have no idea if it's any better than the cheap stuff.

i know what you mean about leaving the house. i'm venturing out today. if you hear about an unidentified woman going berserk at mall of america -- that'll be me.

i like your new photo!

Happy Holidays, Anne! Love the Glogg recipe - I'd been trying to think of how to "spice" up the wassail recipe I have. Now I'll just change it up!

helen, happy holidays! yes, this is kind of like wassail. my daughter brought the recipe back from sweden where it's a tradition. i don't know how to make the umlauts above the O.
