more crafts

just a few days ago on kelly parra's blog we were all griping about how we don't have time to do the things we used to do. i had no plans to even send cards this year, then i decided to send a few, but couldn't find any i liked. so i decided to make a couple, and a couple turned into about 30. i decorated the photos with glitter glue, then added text -- almost a little story.
here are a few of them. i really enjoyed this project, especially when i decided to add some weird text.

Weird text is the best. Sounds like a fun project.

What we really want to know is what was the weird text?

And, considering that this is you we're talking about, what exactly do you define as weird?

Sounds like a fun project. Most cards get thrown away during the post-New Year hangover period. It would be nice to get some worth keeping like these.

Dang it, you made your own Christmas cards! Now, I'm going to have to bake cookies, or something. haha!

Cool, they look awesome!

I love homemade cards. I started doing my own once I got Microsoft Publisher to lay it out for me. Yours are terrific.

hulles and stephen: unfortunately it's only weird by traditional christmas standards. i discarded most of initial text ideas in favor of something less annoying. i'm sure they'll still be a lot of WTFs. maybe next year i'll bump it up.... kind of horror christmas cards... hmmm. i like it.

jaye, i have a feeling most of these will be pitched with the others! :D

kelly, LOL!! yeah, after all my moaning about never doing this kind of thing. haha! i think you inspired me.

patti, thanks! i think the window is my favorite.
i had another post all ready to go, but i'm still waiting on that. *whistles and looks around*

What a great idea - especially since you take really good photos. Love the idea of horror christmas cards, too. Nuthin' like a little creepy holiday spirit! (see, that there was a double entendre!)

angie -- hehe!! maybe i could market them as holiday spirit cards. :D

here's the text for the glittery doorknob: "Open the door," he whispered.

the tower: Baby stars clung to the tower, not yet ready to fly.

okay, that's a bit sappy. need to work on the horror for next year. :D

We broke down and did the photo card thing this year. They just arrived yesterday, so I will be filling out envelopes today! Plus decordating the tree. Plus drinking augmented egg nog! Whoo hoo!

These card look VERY interesting! Makes me wish I'd made time for something like that too!

bill, the photo thing is nice. i always really like getting those. i have a friend who's done one every year for about 25 years, so i've been able to watch her kids grow.

careful with the eggnog. i saw somebody get sick on that once. not a good representation of christmas.

Well, I don't drink TOOOO much...

Those seriously rock!!

I LOVE the graveyard pics!! Perfect for a Christmas card. Why didn't I think of that? :D

anne frasier said...

bill, practice, practice.

jason, i'm shocked that you didn't think of graveyard photos! haha! there's always next year. but it is a bit on the dark side. i keep imagining someone opening a card and wondering what the hell kind of message i'm trying to send.

hmmm....market them as "holiday spirit cards",huh?

Too late...that was LAST year that Wal-Mart wouldn't let their employees wish anyone a "Merry Christmas". Now...they've rescended that and gone back to the old greeting.

They could have said, "Happy Holiday Spirit" last year. You could have made a fortune! Now, you'll have to market them in the up-scale stores for next year. Ahhhhh...an even better idea!!

anne frasier said...

have they gone back to the old greeting?

i gotta get a tv. i didn't think i ever watched it, but apparently i watched enough to keep up on some of the things going on in the world. now i know NOTHING. but sadly i also kind of like knowing nothing.

i think marketing cards is even worse that book publishing. you have to be with a big house/company.

Yeah, you might want to re-think marketing your Christmas cards, but about the TV thing...here's part of what you are missing this week alone: Thursday on The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson, Max Brooks author of "The Zombie Survival Guide" and on Friday Twisted Sister doing "Oh Come All Ye Faithful". (These listings are lifted straight off the show's CBS web-site.)

anne frasier said...

oh, crap. i have to see both of those things. wow. i'll bet twisted sister has to come there straight from the nursing home.

I just can't resist making one more comment in response to your last response.
The good thing is that maybe on their way from the nursing home, they could give Keith Richards a lift. Since you don't have a TV, you probably missed hearing that yesterday was Keith's birthday! Yep, 112th I think.

dee: lol!!

i've noticed he's gradually looking more like his real age.
