Oh. My. God. That was so freakin' wrong. And you should have a beverage warning posted. After having just come off a poetry slam, it has an extra poetic resonance for me. I shan't go into details...
Oh, man, I've seen worse stuff in prime time plenty! I've seen worse stuff during day time. I mean, how many kids films are filled with a bit of innuendo to keep dads entertained?
I wouldn't be surprised if the ad agency did it for the free publicity, though. I mean, let's face it. Controversy stirs up interest, and they've generated a lot of free publicity through the news media with this.
Seriously funny as hell. Laughed my ass off, Anne. It was just what I needed, so thanks!
Yeah, but innuendo is a little different - most kids don't catch that. You can screen what programs your kid watches, but you can't screen the commercials. The other side of me battles with the censorship issue. That's what I meant by both sides - it's a constant struggle within me. I hate censorship, but at the same time I recognize the need for it ...
I agree these weren't for TV, but having them on the fire dept's website or on the radio seems like less of a problem. I think they're hilarious, but they seem to be a bit out of touch with the community at hand.
damn. safari crashed. i hate to retype everything. why does that always happen when i've typed paragraphs???
sandra, glad you got a good laugh out of it. i've watched poetry bull about 10 times. i swear it gets funnier with each viewing. the computer bull is good too.
i could actually see these going over very well in canada. canadians would love them. and good point about the ad agency. they did them for free, and you'd think they'd have some clue that they would be inappropriate for american primetime.
eve: i can just imagine a four-year-old running around spouting that poem. :D of course kids that age repeat song lyrics that are just as bad or worse. if the ad aired here, it would probably have to be after 11:00 (or whenever smut time starts.)
"but they seem to be a bit out of touch with the community at hand."
emeraldcite: that was my immediate reaction. the ads were done by a new york ad agency, and i know a lot of new yorkers have no concept of what goes on beyond NYC. but they THINK they do.
Anne Frasier, USA Today bestselling author of Hush, Sleep Tight, Play Dead, Pale Immortal, and Garden of Darkness, has been recognized with numerous awards including the RITA and Daphne
du Maurier for romantic suspense. Publishers Weekly says Frasier "has perfected the art of making a reader's skin crawl." The Minneapolis Star Tribune calls her a "master." She divides her time between Minnesota and Wisconsin.

I can see both sides of the controversy.

eve, it's a little much for regular television. :O

I think they're hilarious, but i'm not a shining example of the status quo.
...
or am i?
[cue twilight zone theme]
Yeah, Canadians would love them. Especially here in Alberta!
emeraldcite and sandra: i have to guess people who laugh their asses of at this stuff are just a little bit different. :D
i was hesitant to put up the link because i figured it would offended some people. but that's becoming my thing. :D
