PROJECT PIMP SQUAD -- 100 BLOGGERS BLOGGING

i came up with the idea of PROJECT PIMP SQUAD -- 100 BLOGGERS BLOGGING back in early July. i thought it would be great if 100 people would post the Pale Immortal book video on their blogs on September 5. This idea came about after my daughter posted a parody she'd made for a contest on youTube and it ended up being a featured video and got 100,000 views in a few days. So people said, "Wouldn't it be great if your book video could get that kind of exposure?" That was the pimp-squad trigger. I also think it will be an interesting experiment. How much power does the blogging community have? Can we have any impact?

But now my focus has shifted slightly. Most people who are planning to blog are already in line, so i say we slap the info up on Sept 5, then focus on having a huge, all-day internet party. yes, there will be drinking! yes, there might even be nudity!

Kind of a BLOG CRAWL. Where we go from blog to blog and check out the parties. If you post a comment on my blog, visitors will have an automatic link to your blog.

as far as what to post about Pale Immortal -- post whatever strikes your fancy. a book synopsis. the cover. a review. the video itself would be very nice!!!

the easiest if you're pressed for time: post a link to the pale immortal blog and visitors can find the video there.

if you want to put the video on your blog: use the imbedded video code on the youtube site.

if you are on my PIMP SQUAD EMAIL LIST, i will email the code to you and all you have to do is cut and paste. that email will be going out saturday night or sunday morning. it's something you might want to save to sell on ebay when i'm in prison for killing the neighbors.

here's just one post idea:

Watch the Pale Immortal music video, listen to the soundtrack and mp3s, read the first two chapters, and learn more at:

(or a synopsis)

Welcome to Tuonela, a sleepy Wisconsin town haunted by events of 100 years ago, when a man who may have been a vampire slaughtered the town's citizens and drank their blood. Now, another murderer is killing the most vulnerable...and draining their bodies of blood.
Evan Stroud lives in darkness. The pale prisoner of a strange disease that prevents him from ever seeing the light of day, he lives in tragic solitude, taunted for being a "vampire." When troubled teenager Graham Stroud appears on Evan's doorstep, claiming to be his long-lost son, Evan's uneasy solitude is shattered.
Having escaped Tuonela's mysterious pull for several years, Rachel Burton is now back in town, filling in as coroner. Even as she seeks to identify the killer, and uncover the source of the evil that seems to pervade the town, she is drawn to Evan by a power she's helpless to understand or resist....
As Graham is pulled deeper and deeper into Tuonela's depraved, vampire-obsessed underworld, Rachel and Evan team up to save him. But the force they are fighting is both powerful and elusive...and willing to take them to the very mouth of hell.

I'm so paranoid about forgetting I've already got the pimpin' post saved as a draft! Okay, right now it's just the video, 'cause I haven't had time to come up with any text. Still, the video info is hanging out & ready to go!

Love the idea of a blog crawl, btw. Should be fun!

:o)

angie, just the video is plenty for me!! i put up other ideas for those people who would rather not mess with the video.

yeah, the blog crawl -- i like it!!

Sorry, I blanked on everything besides "drinking" and "nudity". What was that again?

Oh I'm all tingly. Listen to this, Anne: our Borders had PI out already today (had to buy one), cover out! Then I checked out the "New Paperbacks" table, but you weren't there. So I asked a helpful sales associate if she could arrange to display some of your books there, too. She marched over to the Mystery/Thriller section, grabbed four copies of PI, then set them up next to Nora Robb and Stephen King on the NP table. Thought you'd like to hear how your pimps are working for you, babe. ;)

stephen: waving my hand in front of your dreamy expression. LOL!

mary louisa: you're tingly? I'M tingly!! my god, you must have put down some kind of strong hoodoo for that to happen. those spots are paid for!!! that is EXTREME pimpin'!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mary Louisa said...

LOL, Anne. Maybe her manager won't notice. I'll try B&N next week.

Picked up my copy this afternoon.

At our local B&N, your books were in a row of five (and two deep), face out on one of those square display shelves in the middle of the store, closer to the front. That's fairly good placement, I think.

Am I on your pimp squad?

Can I put that on a resume? Huh, Huh?

A blog crawl... I love it! Of course, everyone will want to see the sneak peek of my impending review of PI for the next Spinetingler!

am i on the pimp squad? i thought i was, but i've been so hazy in the brain that I don't really remember.

i can't even cap all my Is.

anne frasier said...

mary louisa, i'm guessing you must be a pimp with an air of authority. "yes, and please make sure anne's books are here in front, face-out."

susan, that is FANTASTIC to hear! thanks for letting me know! woot!!

sandra, i don't think you were on the email list, just one who was going to check back here. but i've put you on the list now. i think i've figured out how to send it so all the addresses don't show up. and yes, i think pimp squad would look great on a resume!

emeraldcite, i think you were like sandra -- someone who would just check back. but i put you on the email list. poor sleep-deprived guy. but there's something really sweet about seeing an exhausted father of a new baby. oh, and those Is that weren't capitalized? i don't know what you're talking about. hehe.

I'm all set and ready for Sept. 5th. I might need some help with the croquet set, though. It has a sticker on the box that says, "some assembly required." I never was very good at that.

Anne McAllister said...

Drinks, nudity and croquet? AND we're going to put up html that supposedly links to a video?

Just how talented do you think we are, Anne?

I'm glad you wrote a synopsis for me because now I can finish my own damn book Tuesday -- and maybe play a little croquet.

anne frasier said...

jeff, those croquet sets practically require an engineer to assemble! and the twenty pages of diagrams and instructions? whew.

anne, LOL! i have faith in you!!

Jaye Wells said...

I hope I'm on the email list. I love the idea of a blog crawl. Jello shots at Jaye's Blahg!

anne frasier said...

jaye, yep, you're on the list. my idea is for bloggers to drop in here and post a comment, then we follow the profiles to the various blogs. jello shots! yes!

Flood said...

Taking Angie's advice, the draft is ready to go!

anne frasier said...

woot!! yeah, and you don't want to try to post with a drink in both hands!!

emeraldcite said...

got me email. reedy to goe!

citeemerald

sooorry. allllready stated drikng.

Bill Cameron said...

Jello shots! This just gets better and better!

anne frasier said...

emeraldcite: LOL! that makes me think of the people who pass out before midnight on new year's eve because they aren't used to drinking. wait. that was me.

bill: :D this whole thing has given me a rough idea for a blog scavenger hunt for some future date....

Mindy Tarquini said...

Sure, I'll do it...

What are we doing? Exactly.

Use small words. Numbering the instructions helps.

anne frasier said...

ah-ha! another pimp! *rubbing my hands with glee*

i sent you a pimp email, m. g.

Jerilyn Dufresne, author said...

anne, when you send the video code to us, all I have to do is cut and paste to my blog? That will give folks the link to it? I just want to make sure it's that simple since I've not put a video on my blog before. Can't wait, kiddo. Jer

Tami Klockau said...

Ready and rearing to go over here! Have it saved as a draft. On another note, I went to the borders by me, didn't have it yet. I'll be at my B&N tomorrow. Maybe I can pull the same thing on one of the employees with putting PI on the table up front! I'll give it a shot!

anne frasier said...

jer, apparently the code gets broken in an email. i didn't think about that. you might have to take it directly from youtube.

tami, i finally found copies in a st. paul borders today. they had about 8 in different areas, so that was good. sisters in crime has a special tower this month for their...is it 25 year anniversary, so it was displayed there too! that was such a surprise. the local B&N didn't have any yet. they seem to be slower at getting them out around here, so it might not even be out tomorrow.

Tami Klockau said...

Hmm, I saw the 25 year anniversary thing for Sisters in Crime. I'll have to see if it gets put there. Can't wait! I purposely didn't start a new book this weekend waiting until PI!

anne frasier said...

damn, tami! after all this i hope you like it! that's going to be awful if some of the pimps end up hating the book! but it would also be kind of funny in a weird way.

Joyce Ellen Davis said...

Is the party over? Damn! I missed it? (I'll read the book anyway....)

anne frasier said...

pepek: well darn! i wondered why i had one extra pimp hat!!
