themes from the unconscious mind

in going over the galleys for Pale Immortal, i realized the book has a strong theme i was unaware of until now.

the very foundation of the book deals with people trapped by circumstance.

and even though this is the most other-worldly book i've ever written, facets of it strongly parallel my own life.

so strange...

the trapped-by-circumstance element was something i was asked to remove. now i better understand why i couldn't make myself do it.

got word that ARCs were mailed to me today. keep your eyes open for a drawing!!

I think it's interesting to look back and see what subconscious themes have exerted themselves in our writing - sometimes I wonder if it's something we're trying to work out that we aren't even aware of.

sandra, i agree. i think dreams do that too. maybe writing is another kind of dreaming.

Way some of my books end, that would be nightmares!

That just makes me want to read it all the more. And it also makes me a little more apprehensive about letting my fiction out in public. People may just think I'm i.n.s.a.n.e. Or perhaps they already know?

This reaffirms my notion that writing is a form of therapy. :)
