on the stereo
1990
Wowzers. I never get tired of this Galaxie 500 album. It was their last, and many people say their best.
I can't begin to choose a favorite song. Melt Away? Listen, the Snow is Falling? King of Spain? Fourth of July?
The music is haunting, fresh, original, and somehow intimate and personal. Hard to believe it came out in 1990.
Or maybe not so hard to believe.

What I find hard to believe is that my husband bought a cd for an album released in 1983 today.
And subjected me to christian rock for two hours driving home. I really wanted to go to hell badly.
AHA! Verification is back on. Did you have problems?
It's not hard to believe that it was 1990, what's hard to believe is that 1990 was sixteen frigging years ago.
Tell Sandra the spam was her fault. She should have warned you not to turn off the word verification. ;)
Galaxie 500 reminds me of the Vaselines.
good stuff.
sandra, that's horrifying. husbands find odd ways to torture their wives. and yes, i did have problems with spammers. and no interesting ones either!
mark, i know what you mean about the 16 years. I think of this album as being fairly new. :(
emeraldcite, i've heard of the vaselines, but i don't believe i've heard any of their music.
It's good stuff. Nirvana covered a few of their songs: "Jesus Don't Want Me for a Sunbeam" and "Molly's Lips."
It's worth a listen if nothing else. It's oddly catchy.
More new/old music for me to check out. I'm feeling musically deprived. :(
